A 47 year old man is charged with impaired driving causing death after his female passenger died Sunday in a single vehicle crash on Yellowhead Trail.
Edmonton Police Service Insp. Brian Nowlan said Sunday that police were called at about 5:30 p.m. by a motorist who saw the 1990 Chevrolet Corvette speeding and driving erratically on Yellowhead Trail. Nowlan said the Corvette was weaving in and out of lanes. Police said there was evidence of excessive speed and alcohol.
The motorist was speaking to police when the Corvette lost control and rolled onto it's hood on the embankment of the Victoria Trail overpass. "The caller advised the vehicle had left the road, had flipped, and that the people were trapped," Nowlan said.
The 41 year old female passenger, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.
Allan Dean Balay is charged with impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death, and more charges are pending, police said.
