Last weekend was the first rollout of holiday Curb the Danger checkstops of the season and the Edmonton Police Service has already charged 17 motorists with impaired driving.
Officers also issued 22 roadside suspensions during the three checkstops, which were held Thursday and Saturday night.
This compares to 200 impaired driving arrests for all of December 2013's Checkstop operations.
Police say they are noticing more drivers intoxicated by drugs this year, rather than driving drunk. If you suspect a driver is impaired, you are asked to call 9-11 to help "Curb the Danger."
