Impaired driving charges laid after fatal rollover in central Alberta town

RCMP have charged a suspected impaired driver after a car rolled Friday morning in Clive, killing one passenger.

A Chrysler Intrepid carrying three males went off the road on Railway Avenue in the central Alberta community at 12:45 a.m. Police and emergency responders found a 23 year old Drumheller area man, who was declared dead at the scene. The male driver and a second passenger were treated for minor injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the collision, Blackfalds RCMP said.

Jacob Stahl, 25, of Bashaw, faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while impaired causing death, operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content over .08 causing an accident resulting in death and dangerous driving causing death.

Stahl was released on his own recognizance with several conditions. His first appearance in Red Deer Provincial Court is scheduled for Aug. 24.
