Charges laid after truck plows into Drayton Valley RCMP facility

A Drayton Valley man is facing numerous charges in connection with an incident early Wednesday in which a stolen pickup truck was driven into the side of the town's RCMP detachment.

David Andrew Franklin Yurkiw, 38, has been charged with theft of motor vehicle with violence, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired driving, operation of a motor vehicle while disqualified, mischief over $5,000 and two counts of possession of ammunition while prohibited.

RCMP said that around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, a Dodge Ram truck plowed into the side of the detachment, breaking through the overhead door of a secure storage bay and damaging items inside.

The male driver then got out of the truck and walked inside the detachment, where he was arrested. RCMP said drug use is believed to be a factor in the incident.

Drayton Valley is 140 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
