Red Deer man charged with impaired driving

A 29 year old man from Red Deer will have to answer to charges of impaired driving after police responded to a single vehicle collision on the QE2 early Sunday morning.

Police were called to the QE2 southbound near the 67th street overpass just after midnight where an investigation determined that a southbound vehicle had struck the cable barrier causing damage to no less than 20 cable support posts.

The integrity of the cable barrier system prevented the vehicle from crossing into northbound traffic.

Police arrested the Red Deer man for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and he'll be facing 2 charges in relation to impaired driving.

Speed is also being considered as a factor in the collision.

The driver did not sustain any injuries and no other vehicles were involved.

The man's name has not been released but police say he will appear in court later this month.
