A 25 year old man from the Alexander Reserve First Nation has been charged with dangerous driving causing death after a hit and run last Sunday.
Early that morning, a man was hit and killed by a vehicle while walking on a gravel road about two kilometres north of Highway 642 on Range Road 272. Morinville RCMP responded to the scene around 3:30 a.m. and found 28 year old Ian Cardinal, from the reserve, dead in a ditch.
The vehicle's driver, who was identified by numerous witnesses, was arrested and charged Thursday with impaired driving causing death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, among other offences.
Alcohol is considered a factor in the crash, RCMP said in a news release.
The name of the man accused has not been released by the RCMP.
He will make his first court appearance in Morinville on Oct. 30. Alexander Reserve First Nation is located in Sturgeon County, about 50 km northwest of Edmonton.
