A 65 year old woman was killed in a marked crosswalk Friday night by a vehicle being driven by a suspected drunk driver.

Edmonton police were called to 71st Street and 86th Avenue around 9:15 p.m. and found a woman lying in the crosswalk with life threatening injuries, according to a news release.

Witnesses said the driver of a 2005 Ford Explorer was travelling northbound on 71st Street before turning west onto 86th Avenue, where he allegedly struck the woman in the marked crosswalk.

The woman was pronounced dead at hospital.
